New Record: Kia EV6 Sets the Bar for Cross-country Charging

January 5, 2022

We’re big fans of Kia and their capable Kia EV6 crossover – but it looks like they’re gaining even more fans every day. This week, you can add the people at the Guinness Book of World Records to the list, after certifying a record-setting trip across the United States covering 2,880.5 miles with the shortest charging of any electric vehicle.

That’s right – despite not having access to “that other company’s super-duper charging network”, the Kia team completed a seven-day “cannonball run” from New York City, NY to Los Angeles, California and spent just 7 hours 10 minutes and 1 second connected to chargers along the way.  A record-setting performance that beat previous record holder, a Tesla using the Supercharger Network, by more than five and a half hours (12 hours, 48 minutes, and 19 seconds). (!)

“The EV6’s record-setting run is the latest signal that Kia will be a leader in the popularization of electric vehicles,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. “All of Kia’s world-class engineering and experience in electric vehicles will be applied in the move to electrification. The same attention to detail, design, quality, technology and driving dynamics that Kia has become known for will be found in every new electric vehicle we bring to market.”

It's hard to argue with that. The Kia EV6 will arrive in US showrooms in Q1 of 2022, with the supercar-beating EV6 GT arriving a few months later. In case you’ve forgotten how much fun that car is going to be, here’s a reminder.
